NEW Converse store in SoHo, NYC

on November 26th a new Converse store opened up in SoHo located on 560 Broadway and Prince street. when i first walked in there is a huge wall of Chuck Taylor sneakers making up a giant American Flag. it was pretty awesome. i had* to take a picture. they sell the obvious array of shoes. including a new one that exclusively came out for the store opening. along with some new shirt designs. a cool addition to the store is what they have in the very back- a station where you can build your very own sneakers from the sole up. you* choose the colors and even the graphics. it's pretty great. definitely a store worth checking out.

Super7/Japanese Vinyl

in the past year i got real close to and learned from the world known toy company Super7. there are 2 Super7 stores. one of course is the main headquarters in San Fransisco on the famous Haight street. the other is St. Petersburg, Florida- in walking distance from where i lived for a while. so i would of course stop by a lot. spend some money and be mentored by my friend and the owner of the store; Scott about the toy industry. there is a lot to learn. and the process of making Japanese vinyl is pretty amazing. Super7 specializes in Japanese vinyl monster toys. unlike the popular Chinese vinyl most people collect such as Munny's and Dunny's. my friends and i were lucky enough to share the store with local and world renowned artists from all around the world for an art show. check out our write up in Vinyle Pulse here. i think i mentioned the show when i was showing off my Lego art pieces... anyways- here are some of my favorite monsters sold by or made by Super7.

PartyBall (named after a particle ball. that's why he has so many different elements of different monsters to him ad his body shape)

Short Skate Film series

Brett Novak is featuring Kilian Martin in this video of his series of "Short Skate Films". it's a project he wants to keep alive through donations. Kilian's a beast when it comes to flatland style skating. he makes it look like a ballet. just watch. and if you can- donate here. 

NEW The Loyal Subjects x Buff Monster- the Destroyer

check out the new toy released by Buff Moster and TLS- "The Destroyer". it'll premiere at Designer Con this month. i wish i were able to go. tickets are only $5 and FREE after 3pm. too bad it's in California. if you're way out there you should go. it's in a few days on the 20th at he Pasadena Convention Center. the colors used for this toy are awesome. check that pink he is using- classic Buff Monster. it's pretty big too- 14 inches tall. only 98 pieces made. so if you're lucky enough to go- hurry. they'll go fast. it'll run you $115. found only at The Loyal Subjects booth. if you're a big enough fan it's worth it. you can get it signed by Buff Monster himself from 11am- Noon on the 20th.

Videos You Should Watch, Songs You Should Love

i start with the new Gorillaz single featuring Daley entitled: Doncamatic; simply for the fact that they are my all time favorite and one of thee* greatest musical acts in the history of the world. EVER.... the Donca Matic was the japanese drum machine that literally started it all for the Korg company in 1963. fitting as to how another single they put out for the Plastic Beach is called Stylo. the Stylomatic is an awesome instrument. it started as a kids toy at first but it's used a lot today. i really like how the video ties perfectly together with the theme of the Plastic Beach story and videos. read the storyline of how the album came to be in the Complex Magazine interview here. let me add i love that magazine and Marc Ecko is the man.

enjoy DaftPunk? who doesn't? i've been a fan of theirs since Homework came out. big time follower. they're such rock stars. a big inspiration for me musically i can't help but imagine how sweet it would be to perform their jams. here's a site where you can do just that. have fun with the samples at your own pace. i basically recreated the track from memory at first. mix it up after you get the hang of the sample keys and have fun. i've been having a blast with this thing. woop woop!

"Aerosol Amoeba"; see what happens when you squish different colors of spray paint in-between  two sheets of acetate... it's friggin beautiful. filmed over 144 hours and comprised to 4 minutes. awesome song by KidStreet. you should put your headphones on to enjoy this to it's full potential. go head and go full screen too... oh... and take some drugs... or don't. it's an amazing video either way.

SKATEISTAN

 the people of Kabul live a hard life with all the war and fighting around them at all times. follow the kids of Kabul as they escape from it all by skateboarding. a skatepark was amazingly built out there. in a society where woman aren't treated equally some girls break the mold and pick up a board too. the people aren't used to seeing skateboards so the older folks think it's some kind of magic. bewildered by stick flipping. hah. it's pretty moving seeing how skating can change their lives so significantly though. i hope they keep it up an are able to move out of there to live the fast and fun life of being a pro-skater. makes me feel like i take my obvious freedom but also my ability to skate around for granted.

Most Interesting Men in the World

nothing* says bad ass better than these three guys.
the first is the guy from the Dos Equis beer commercials- "the Most Interesting Man in the World". played by the actor Jonathan Goldsmith. he's been in a bunch of t.v. shows. all classics; including Knight Rider, CHiPs, MacGyver, the A-Team, Charlies Angels and the ever* so* bad ass Murder She Wrote (haha). he's also a New Yorker. woop woop! represent! anyone could have guessed the Most Interesting Man in the World was born in New York though. hahah

speaking of which- Chuck Norris is an obvious pop culture icon of almighty manliness. solely because he's the originator of the Interesting Man Facts craze. popping up online in 2005 they're still being written. check out one of his* "facts" generators here.

the newest addition to the Interesting Men's Club is John Jameson of Jameson Whiskey. more alcohol. only proves how good drinking is for you. it may make a man mean but apparently so interesting you get cool "facts" made about you. he has a site about how amazing he was but i don't know how authorized and official it is- look. in that case there is a cocktail recipe generator here. it'll come in handy. check out Jameson's new commercial explaining the greatness he was... aside from making a drink that "definitely does the job" (hehe).



Jameson breeds manliness in this* commercial. the length a man will go to for a drink... nothing can stop you. i know from experience.

the girl of my dreams / the Walking Dead

my late halloween post-

Director Spencer Susser and co-writer David Michod put together this short film in 2008. recognize the girl in it? she's Mia Wasikowska; she played Alice in the 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland. i've been waiting for a buzz on if they were gonna make this a full length feature for a long time but sadly still nothing. maybe this is just one of those teasers that will never be. hope not. i won't sum up what goes on in this post-apocalyptic world because you should just watch it and find out. enjoy.


 

also:
the Walking Dead premiered last night and it was amazing. as my friends and i are fans of the comics we noticed slight differences but it's okay since it's all done by the same writers. do yourself a favor and watch this show. don't start watching it too late in the series. and* do yourself another favor and read the comics.
